Coming off the success of 1993 Finest, Topps decided to create a super-premium set for it’s Bowman brand, called Bowman’s Best. Before Bowman Chrome ever hit the market, this was the set to have when it came to prospects and rookies. It was a simple set design, composed of 200 cards. The set was broken down into 3 designs; red for veterans, blue for rookies and prospects, and then a subset entitled Mirror Image.

Upon opening the packs, the cards had this greasy feel to them, but a little soft-cloth cleaning took care of that. Each pack contained 7 cards; 3 red, 3 blue, and 1 Mirror Image. Back in 1994, each pack had an SRP of $3.99, though I believe some dealers weren’t taking chances and had these going for up to $10/pack upon release.
